If you’re looking for charities in the Simcoe County Area to give back to or get involved with, we’ve rounded up some of our favourites just in time for the upcoming holiday season.
Located in Barrie, Gilda’s club provides support to all those impacted by cancer, whether it be friends and family of someone diagnosed, or those dealing with a loved one lost to cancer. They provide a place to seek emotional and educational support in the way of programs, support groups, workshops and activities.
The shelter is a registered non-profit providing free and confidential services to women and children seeking support from domestic violence. Their location consists of a 27 bed facility for women escaping abusive situation, as well as counselling, support groups, legal assistance, and educational programs for women and children.
Cope is an organization that specializes in training service dogs for people with mobility issues. They help students in elementary and secondary schools, as well as those with disabilities within the larger community. Their program allows students to overcome their own challenges while working with the service dog.
The centre is a charitable organization that has been serving Barrie and area for twenty three years, providing support to children and their families who have experienced the loss of a loved one, or those who are dealing with life threatening illnesses. Through peer-peer support groups and programs, they help children and teens deal with the grief process in a healthy way.
