Fun Fall Activities In Simcoe County

Sweater weather is officially here! Fall, aka Autumn, is one of my favourite seasons.

The crisp weather and beautiful foliage make for an impressive season.

Don't just see the fall colours, experience them!

Here are some great ways to take advantage of the gorgeous scenery with these fun fall activities:

Go apple picking.

If you're looking to bake apple pies, make candy apples for Halloween or to have fresh and healthy snacks on hand apple picking is a great fall activity with family and friends. Some of the farms to check out are Barrie Hill Farms and Avalon Orchards.

Go hiking.

There are beautiful and natural woodland trails all over Ontario. Hiking can be an exciting adventure. You could catch a glimpse of wildlife, admire the beautiful flora and fauna and take in the beauty of the changing leaves. And did I mention it’s a healthy way to spend your day? Simcoe County has lots of trails to choose from like the Oro-Medonte Rail Trail, Osprey Ridge, Copeland Forest and many more.

Plant bulbs in your garden for next Spring.

Tulip and daffodil bulbs should be planted in fall or early winter for spring flowering!

The best time to plant bulbs is when evening low temperatures are between 5° - 10°C. Fall planting should be done about six weeks before the ground freezes to get the perfect spring blooms! Click here for the Planting Calendar for Barrie.

Attend the Elmvale Fall Fair.

Head over to the Elmvale Fall Fair on from October 4-6 for the Stock truck and tractor pull, midway, good food, animal shows, parade, and lots of fun tournaments. Here are all the details.

Visit a farm or farmers market.

Take the family to the farm for the day! Pet animals, play games, pick up some delicious fruits, veggies or baked goods. Lots of local farms in Simcoe County offer tons of fun for the entire family. A couple of fun ones are Chappell Farms and Hewitts Farm Market.

Take a studio tour.

Simcoe is full of talented artists, take a studio tour and see some amazing sights. Images Studio Tour runs from October 5-8 and is “one of Ontario’s finest and longest-running studio tours”. For a list of all the artists and locations visit https://www.images-studio-tour.com/.
For a full list of activities be sure to check the events calendar at https://www.simcoe.com/simcoecounty-events/.

You can spend your days soaking up fall foliage and your nights enjoying good food with your family and friends!
